Meet the Trainers

Our horses are trained by some of the best  trainers in the country. We select them not only because of their excellent training records but because of the first class care they give our horses. Our trainers are honest and approachable, encouraging owners to visit as often as they like.

Mark Walford

Based near York, Mark trains from his family’s farm, Cornborough Manor with stunning views over the Yorkshire countryside. Mark learned his trade with Mick Channon and John Quinn before spending six years assisting his father. He took over the training license from Tim in 2014 and has since sent out over 100 winners both on the flat and over jumps.

Evan Williams

National Hunt Racehorse Trainer based in the Vale Of Glamorgan, South Wales. Evan needs no introduction, winner of numerous group 1 races and he regularly sends out 50+ winners a season. He took out his training license in 2003 and has gone from strength to strength, culminating in him winning theWelsh Grand National. The yard sports state of the art facilities and although home to some of racing's stars, it still has a real family feel.

Phil Makin

Phil was a very successful jockey, riding the first of more than 900 winners in 2002. His best tally in a year was 111 in 2009. His big-race successes included the Gimcrack Stakes in 2012 and the Sky Bet York Stakes in 2015. He has now turned his attention to training racehorses from his Yorkshire base. Last year was his best season when he sent out 17 winners and his current crop of horses look to be his best yet. Phil is a young trainer who looks to be going places.

Daragh Bourke

Daragh has recently started training horses from Cherrybank Stables in the Scottish borders after a successful career race riding. He operates a small friendly yard where every horses is treated as an individual. Daragh has one of the best strike rates of any flat trainer in the country, currently averaging 19% winners.

Sam trains from his base in Shropshire and is now well established as a successful, national hunt trainer. Sam has continuously improved the facilities at Church Farm to make sure the horses receive care of the highest standard. In his best season to date, Sam managed an incredible 21% strike rate.

Sam England

Sam England is a dual‐purpose trainer based in Guiseley near Leeds, West Yorkshire.

Although predominantly a jumps trainer, enjoying plenty of success with the likes of Kinodo Kwetu, she has also won the Silver Trophy on the Flat at Ripon. Her husband Jonathon England is the stable jockey.

Dominic Ffrench Davis

Dominic grew up in Ireland, the son of a County Meath vet. From there he went on to work for trainers such as Paul Cole and David Elsworth before starting up on his own in 1994. Dominic has enjoyed success under both codes and trained multiple black type performers. It's a family operation with jockey Ben Ffrench Davis, leading the string on the gallops most mornings.
